Training in Sequencing Techniques and Microbiome Analysis2026-10-30

The Nutrigenomics and Integrative Fish Biology Group hosted Mohamed Habib Trakhna, a PhD student from the University of Tunis El Manar, for a two-month research stay between September and late October as part of his doctoral training programme.

Under the supervision of Federico Moroni, his research focused on the intestinal microbiota of Mediterranean horse mackerel and the microbial communities associated with their intestinal parasites. During his stay, he actively participated in the group's scientific and experimental activities, combining work at the experimental facilities with laboratory-based research.

In addition, he received hands-on training in third-generation sequencing technologies, as well as in the bioinformatic and statistical analysis of metabarcoding data. This training provided valuable expertise in advanced molecular and computational approaches for studying host-associated microbial communities, while fostering international scientific collaboration and knowledge exchange.
