Ruth Collado joins IATS-CSIC to contribute to the BreamHOLOBIONT project through the Youth Employment Programme2026-04-10

Ruth Collado Subiranas has recently joined IATS‑CSIC within the framework of the SEPE Youth Employment Programme 2025. Her work will be developed through the collaboration between the Fish Nutrigenomics and Integrative Biology Group, coordinated by Prof. Jaume Pérez-Sánchez, and the Fish Pathology Group, led by Dr. Carla Piazzon.

Her activity is integrated into the national project BreamHOLOBIONT (The gilthead sea bream holobiont: from pangenome to metagenome), which aims to study farmed gilthead sea bream, its microbiome and its parasites as a single integrated system or holobiont, using advanced omics tools to improve the species’ adaptation to climate change in the Mediterranean.

Within this framework, her work is structured around two main axes. The first focuses on digital support systems for aquaculture management, integrating physicochemical and microbiota data to optimise environmental monitoring and water quality through intelligent tools. In parallel, she will also address the preparation and automation of parasite genomic data analysis and its integration into open repositories.

The second axis centres on Data Science applied to Aquaculture, including the integration and analysis of multi‑omics datasets to identify patterns associated with thermal tolerance in farmed fish, as well as the exploration and modelling of parasite datasets to identify potential therapeutic targets and vaccine candidates.
