New PhD Thesis: Innovation and sustainability through the valorization of meat by-products in aquaculture feed2026-03-04

On February 27, Cristina Moreno Mariscal defended her PhD thesis entitled “Protein hydrolysates generated from meat by-products for its use in aquaculture feed”, within the framework of the PhD Programme in Food Science at the Universitat de València, receiving the distinction of “Outstanding”.

The thesis was supervised by Prof. Dr. Fidel Toldrá Vilardell, Dr. Leticia Mora Soler and Dr. Federico Moroni, and was carried out through a collaboration between the Instituto de Agroquímica y Tecnología de Alimentos (IATA-CSIC) and the Fish Nutrigenomics and Integrative Biology Group of the Instituto de Acuicultura Torre de la Sal (IATS-CSIC), within the framework of the ThinkInAzul programme of the Valencian Community.

Overall, this thesis highlights how the biotechnological valorization of animal by-products can generate innovative solutions that connect sustainability, health, and animal welfare, delivering benefits to both the meat and aquaculture sectors.
